Not Quite What We Expected

We left Nashville this morning early and eager to have a great time in the mountains of West Virginia.

When we finally arrived in Bluefield we followed the signs to the "Historic District" excited to see this town that we had read about online and envisioned in our minds.  Well, it is NOTHING like what we read about or envisioned; which was a quaint town full of shops, restaurants and people walking around (like Suttons Bay or Saugatuk).  It is a deserted, coal mine, ghost town!  There are no businesses!   Empty scary factories everywhere, and not the class of people we expected to encounter.  After looking back at the brochures we found online about the town of Bluefield we can now see if you look really close, the pictures show EMPTY buildings.  The Bed and Breakfast Dian Lee is cute and every picture of the place is at the best angle, as you can see from the pictures on the website.  Not to mention we think it might be haunted by all the 100 year old scary pictures of people staring at us.

But....... we decided to make the best of it and do some exploring in the neighboring town.
So, we did some research and found that there was a mall and some decent restaurants in the neighboring town of Princeton.  Out we went to the Mercer Mall which was not to bad and then on to Princeton for dinner where we ate at Outback on Greasy Ridge Rd.  LOL!

After dinner we decided to stay local and go see a movie and venture to the town of Beckley tomorrow.  Let's just say that we are SPOILED with M-89 cinema!  Our movie tickets alone were $17.00 and a Large Popcorn and Large Drink to share were $13.65!  Wow, what an expensive night, we would have spent less driving around enjoying the scenery.  But, we did enjoy the movie, 'Super 8'.  After the movie we knew we needed to get gas so we used the good old GPS to look for the nearest gas station and upon arrival found it closed; please note we were driving back towards the deserted city where everything was dark and it was now 9:30 at night.  So, back on down the road; not really sure how much gas we had left b/c we hit E before we went to the movie.  We pulled into the next gas station; AGAIN CLOSED, and were told there was another gas station 5 minutes up the road.  Now, please keep in mind it is dark, not much light on the road, in an empty city and to top it off my phone was almost dead in case we would have ran out of gas.  LOL!!!!!!  To say the least we found a gas station and filled up; BUT, we have a 17 gallon tank and we put in 16.2 gallons of gas and in a REALLY BAD AREA!  OMG!!!!!!!

To say the least this has been a weekend to remember, and it's only just begun.  Lessons learned- don't always trust what you read or see on the Internet and never let your gas run low in a city you are not familiar with, with a phone that is almost dead.

We are laughing and going to enjoy the time together!

Tune in tomorrow for more Boydston Adventures :)
